2014 saw us decide to start the next stage of our demo car and take it to new levels. The gallery will tell the story of what we are doing. We removed the old engine which was running 278.5bhp ready for the work to start. We also named the car COLLOSUS Engine out, Gearbox removed and the subframe removed showed us the state the engine bay was in The front panel was heavily corroded and was looking very tired More of the rust I decided to cut out all the rust and replace with fresh metal, If we hadnt it would only have come back quickly Plate we have made tacked in place ready for seam welding in More of the welding The weld being ground back as to make an invisible repair Welding and griding finished Once the welding was finished we cleaned up all the metal with a mini grinder and treated the whole panel with KuRust. There was very little pitting left after the grinding but the KuRust have worked well for us before at holding of further corrosion from coming back A thin skim of stopper/filler was used to tidy up the front panel The panel was now starting to look a lot better Sanded and ready for etch primer I rust treated the panel a second time on the front lip and underneath We also rust treated surrounding areas We then etch primed the front panel repairs It now certainly looks a lot fresher then before we started Rest of the engine bay was then prepped for paint before giving it all a coat of primer then white bascoat. We finished it off with some white pearl clear More of the painted engine bay more of the painted engine bay As you can see we did the underneath as well and will later do the whole underneath once its a rolling shell again and can make it onto our ramp More of the engine bay You can just see the pear we have added to the clear coat We then used some cavity wax on the inside of the repaired front panel to prevent it rusting from the inside out which is what usually happens, people dont always realise this and neglect to coat the inside of repairs and that leads to fast corrosion from inside out. Masked the holes ready for the cavity wax Its a messy job but easily cleaned up afterwards with panel wipe Time to start powder coating things before been refiited to the painted engine bay All the brackets in the engine bay are bieng powder coated black and all nuts and bolts and washers are been replaced with stainless steel ones Subframe has been powder coated black as well, we want the engine bay to look fresh and new throughout. More powder coated brackets Servo has also been sanded cleaned and painted gloss black Slowly its getting rebuilt carefully to not mark things as they go back in. Wiring loom starting to find its place ABS unit back in place Fuse box positioned Brake pipes re-fitted and the crossmember bolted back into position, its now starting to look like an engine bay again. Master cylinder cleaned and re-ffited Steering rack is in good order but required freshening up Arms blasted and coated black and brackets done Neon Orange to add a little colour. Arms re-fitted and moving parts regreased. Boots cleaned and re-fitted with fresh stainless steel ties Passenger arm Drivers arm Complete Steering rack looking a lot fresher coated back Hubs looked rusty and tired so were also freshened up New bearings fitted also as we want reliabilty from the demo car when its finished
